Welcome letter
Welcome to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria!
As Vice-Rector for Research , I would like to extend my warmest welcome to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and to thank you for placing your trust in our institution to begin or continue your research career.

At the ULPGC, we are committed to providing you with the human, material and administrative resources necessary to carry out your scientific work effectively and efficiently. Our goal is to ensure that you can contribute fully to the advancement of knowledge and to the strengthening of the scientific and research performance of our university.
We invite you to become familiar with the research structure of the ULPGC, organised into Recognised Research Groups (GIRs), which constitute the fundamental units through which research activity is conducted — via projects, contracts and agreements in research, development, innovation and knowledge transfer. The Recognised Research Groups are integrated within the University Research Institutes or Academic Departments.
To support your research activity, you will have access to the Research Service (Servicio de Investigación), the administrative structure responsible for research management at the ULPGC. This service is organised into two sub-directorates:
-
The Sub-directorate for Research Projects, Infrastructures and General Services, which provides advice on the planning, implementation and financial justification of research projects.
-
The Sub-directorate for Research Human Resources, responsible for managing competitive calls, formalising contracts and handling grants and awards aimed at research staff (for conference participation, publications and other purposes).
In addition, the ULPGC, through its in-house entity, the Canarian Foundation Science and Technology Park of the ULPGC (FCPCT), has formalised a management assignment for the European Projects Office (OPE), whose mission is to promote and support the participation of researchers in European and international programmes and calls. The OPE provides specialised advice throughout the entire project lifecycle — from the preparation and submission of proposals to their implementation, monitoring and reporting.
Likewise, the ULPGC has also entrusted the FCPCT with the management of the Scientific and Shared Research Services Office (OSSCC), which is responsible for coordinating and optimising the use of the university’s scientific and technical infrastructures. It facilitates access for research staff — and for society in general — to advanced equipment and to specialised research support services.
From the Vice-Rectorate for Research, we remain at your disposal to help you integrate smoothly into the ULPGC and to provide support whenever you need it. On the following link, you can learn more about our organisation and find the appropriate contact channels to address any queries or reach the relevant service.
We also invite you to explore the various university services available to you — the training plan for researchers, IT services, the university library, the Language Centre, the Sports Service, student residences and the wide range of continuing education opportunities. All of them will allow you to enjoy university life to the fullest and truly experience the ULPGC.
We also encourage you to take an active part in our university community through our institutional social media channels and continuous improvement platforms, where you can share your suggestions, commendations and initiatives.
The ULPGC is deeply integrated into the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the island of Gran Canaria, both vibrant and welcoming environments that offer a wide variety of cultural, social and sporting activities in which we invite you to take part.
We are confident that your dedication and effort — together with the support of our teaching and research staff (PDI) and our technical, management, administrative and service personnel (PTGAS) — will enable you to achieve success in your scientific activity and to advance with excellence in your research career.
Kind regards,
Juan Alberto Corbera Sánchez
Vice-Rector for Research
University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC)
