The Plan for Info-Tech Systems and Communications ULPGC 2003-2006
|
It is a true honour for me to present the Plan for Info-Tech Systems and Communications in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 2003-2006, which is the first strategic plan to have been produced as the result of the Strategic Plan for the Institution, 2002-2006. The main aim of this plan is to allow our University to meet the challenges produced as a result of the vertiginous advance in computer and communication science. |

No-one can obviate the reality that we are living in the Info-Tech era. The world has been shaken to its foundations by the IT Revolution. The significance of these new technologies is such that we have a whole new range of expressions, such as the Info-Tech era, to express our new situation. First, we had the Industrial Revolution, then Post-Industrial Society, and now we are immersed in the IT Revolution.
The positive influence of new technology cannot be denied: on Society in general, and on the University, in particular. And yet, it is a question for constant debate and analysis. This document is designed by way of guidelines for the implementation of info-tech systems in the ULPGC, and for such to be divulged for their use by the whole University community.
This Plan hinges on four basic axes. Three of these were chosen from the general guidelines as defined in the Strategic Plan for the Institution, 2002-2006 (Teaching, Research and Management and Services for the University Community). The fourth axis was added to give greater specificity to the Plan and refers to Available Technology and Resources.
These axes are our corner stones, upon which we build a whole series of goals which are to be achieved in the coming years, institutional challenges broken down into a series of actions. The implementation of the guidelines, outlined in the strategic plan for Info-Tech systems and Communications, will allow us, on a day to day basis, confirm our aspirations or reformulate our goals according to the fruits of our experience.
Once this plan had been drawn up, and the proposals, counter proposals and guidelines presented to the members of the University Senate and the Social Council, and assessed by other members of the
University community, the definite version was produced for it to be implemented and monitored, which are tasks which can only be achieved thanks to the participation of the whole University community.
My last words are words of gratitude to all the people who participated in the groups of debate, in the interviews and surveys and, in general, to all the people who given their time and effort towards improving the area of info-tech systems and communications in this University.
